Windows Vs. Mac OS – How to Compare These Two Giants in Computer Operating Systems
January 31st 2012 -
While there are many brands of computers, there are only two major operating systems for average users -Windows and Mac OS. Linux is another choice, but that is typically used only by advanced computer users and businesses. When it comes to choosing a personal computer, you have to take a close look at what both Windows and Mac have to offer, and we’ll be exploring some of their respective advantages in this article.
If you like to use your computer with lots of external devices, you’ll often have more options with a Windows computer. For instance, when you choose a Windows 7 based computer, your computer will likely have a Blu-ray player, and readers for both multi-format cards and memory sticks. Many people like to connect their PCs to their televisions, and to do this with a Mac requires a special converter. Computers that run Windows 7, though, can be connected to your television directly. If you want to watch Internet videos on your TV this is a major plus because it becomes quite a lot simpler. Typically, Windows based computers are more highly compatible with external devices than Mac based computers with the obvious exception being external devices made by Apple. Apple makes a lot of devices, but the most popular aren’t actual computers, they are iPads, iPhones and iPods. However, when you have a Mac computer, you can conveniently connect your computer with these other devices. People with Mac OSes get access to the zero cost iCloud service which makes it a lot easier to sync up your computer with your iPhones, iPods and iPads. So when you want to download things like videos and other content on your external devices, it’s easy to then transfer them to your primary computer. Obviously you’ll only find this beneficial when you enjoy using mobile devices made by Apple. When you have a Windows PC, it is usually quite a lot harder to keep things synced with other devices like mobile phones.
Often the differences are exaggerated by the users of either system, trying to make theirs out to be better than it really is. In the past, there was more of a difference, when it was harder to find either hardware or software that worked with both systems. Most devices that you find today, can be hooked up to a Mac or a PC and both can be worked by versions of software. Furthermore, if you have a modern Mac, it can also run Windows. People who have either computer can find everything they need for doing anything they want, even though there are a few areas, where one or the other is still superior.
There is no real absolute answer as to whether Mac or Windows is a better OS. There are diehard fans for both OSes, but there are major advantages to each choice. You have to carefully consider your own needs and budget and figure out which operating system is most suitable for you.
